When you are the meat farmer in the family, people expect you to bring the meat to family gatherings. This is something I have always enjoyed doing. This year, I decided I wanted to smoke a ham for Thanksgiving. I have cooked ham other ways, but this would be my first time smoking anything.
It turned out really tasty! I thought I would share my recipe with you. It is a combination of recipes and videos I watched in preparation of smoking my own ham.
If you do try this recipe, please tell me how it turned out, or what you would do differently.
Ingredients
10 lb ham
brown sugar
rub of your choosing. (I used a sweet rib rub.)
aluminum foil
Steps:
1.) Make sure your smoker is set to 250 degrees fahrenheit
2.) Rub your ham with the rub of your choosing
3.) Place ham on the smoker
4.) Let ham smoke for 2 hours. Make sure to keep an eye on the temperature. It should stay at a consistent 250.
5.) Rerub the ham with the rub of your choosing and several handfuls of brown sugar.
6.) Return ham to smoker and smoke for an additional 2 hours or until the ham reaches an internal temperature of 145 degrees.
7.) Place ham in a cooler or in the oven, with the oven off, for at least 45 minutes to let the ham rest.
8.) slice and enjoy
