I just wanted to take a moment and introduce myself and our farm. We are a first generation farm that sells pasture raised pork, beef, and free range chicken eggs.
The biggest question we get is how and why do we do this? The short answer: because we love it! There is nothing more peaceful than going out and feeding animals- to watching things grow. And there is nothing more satisfying than knowing you are making a difference in your community by providing people with healthier options to feed their families.
The long answer- because we wanted a better life for our daughter.
We started our fam with just a few acres and 7 baby chicks that were living in our bath tub. Since before my husband and I got married, we had talked about one day owning land. (This was not something I wanted to do, but something my husband wanted.) So when some land came available, I knew we would purchase it.

The land we bought was nothing but dirt. There was no well, septic, house- nothing. So we started building. We dug trenches for the pipes we would later lay and hook up to our house. We found an older farmer to help us dig a well. We paid someone to install the septic.
After we moved out there on a cold January morning, I started thinking it would be neat to have a few chickens. I had never raised livestock before. I could barely keep a dog alive when I was a kid, but I wanted to try something. So I went down to the local feed supply store and bought my first 7 chicks. I did not know the first thing about how to keep them alive. I read the pamphlet that came with them, and I raised them to be six months old in our bathtub.
After that, I started looking for a coop- and boy were they expensive. So, I went to the local lumber yard and bought some 2x4's, plywood, and paint. With the help of my husband and then two year old, we built our first chicken coop. It was not the prettiest, and I learned a lot from building it, but it sure was fun. THAT is when I caught the bug- the livestock bug. From there,

we bought our first set of pigs (3 hamps that were about 3 months old) and our first cow (a holstein heifer that we still have. Her name is Mira.)
At first, we just wanted to provide meat for our family. Having a child makes you see things differently. I started reading about all the added things in meat and eggs at the grocery store. I decided I did not want that for my child. As we started processing our own meat, we would give some away as gifts to others- family, friends, and co-workers.
The rest, as they say, is history. People started hearing about our meat and how good it tasted. They wanted to buy some. So we went through the proper channels to get licensed so we could sell our products. We never thought people would want to purchase meat and eggs from us. But here we are, several years later, and we are able to provide our products to our customers. We love what we do, and we are so happy we get to extend our family table to our community.
